KAPLAN ACADEMY OF KANSAS DOUBLES ITS ONLINE PUBLIC SCHOOL COURSE OFFERINGS FOR KANSAS STUDENTS

Leavenworth, May 22, 2008 — The Kaplan Academy of Kansas has doubled the number of courses in its online public school and tightened admissions standards to ensure that the best students earn a spot in the program. The Kaplan Academy, which operates in partnership with the Leavenworth School District, now offers Advanced Placement, Honors and an expanded array of elective courses for qualified Kansas students.

"The Kaplan Academy of Kansas offers students and parents a tremendous opportunity to attend a high-quality online public school program that can be accessed virtually anywhere at any time," said Charles Thornburgh, the President of Kaplan Virtual Education, which operates the Kaplan Academy of Kansas. "In addition to our robust educational options, students throughout Kansas have an opportunity to benefit from a curriculum that caters to a variety of learning styles, one-on-one interaction with certified teachers, and earning credits from an accredited institution."

Kaplan Academy students have access to 80 courses that are embedded with audio, video and other interactive elements that cater to different skill levels, facilitate learning and keep students engaged. Certified teachers use white boards—the equivalent of a real-time online blackboard-to demonstrate coursework, and they are available to answer student questions via instant message, telephone and email.
