How It Works

Kaplan Academy of Oregon (KAOR) serves students in grades 9–12 and gives access to a complete curriculum not available in many schools. We offer scheduling flexibility, provide online access to coursework, and allow students to work at their own pace toward deadlines. By providing alternatives to traditional public high schools, KAOR empowers students to Learn Outside the Box.

How it works, step-by-step:

  1. Complete and submit your Application Form to Kaplan Academy of Oregon.
  2. When school begins, log in and work on your courses from an Internet-connected computer. Assignments, tests and quizzes are online 24/7.
  3. Succeed at your own pace. Our curriculum is designed to suit various learning styles and skill levels. Meet due dates while working at your own speed.
  4. Get real help when you need it. For each course, you are assigned an experienced, certified teacher who is accessible via virtual whiteboard, phone, email, or instant message (IM). You will also be assigned an Academic Advisor to keep on track.
  5. Earn a diploma, or have the credits transferred to your traditional school.ª Upon completion of all required credits, your diploma will be issued by the Garfield School District No. Re-2.

ª If you are working toward a diploma at another school, please confirm in advance that your school will accept the transfer of Kaplan Academy of Oregon credits.

* Full-time students in Kaplan Academy of Oregon can receive a computer to use as long as they are enrolled in KAOR. Families with more than one student enrolled in the program will receive one computer. Families are required to provide Internet in their homes. While high-speed connections are preferred, courses will run on dial-up connections. Internet stipend checks will be sent during the school year.

Once enrolled, a computer can even be provided to full-time students to use for as long as they are enrolled full-time in KAOR.*
