OREGON VIRTUAL EDUCATION PARTNERS LAUNCHES THE KAPLAN ACADEMY OF OREGON, AN ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL
Kaplan Virtual Education to provide curriculum, technology and other services
Fairview, OR, July 23, 2008-Oregon Virtual Education Partners announced today the launch of Kaplan Academy of Oregon, a tuition-free public high school charted by the Reynolds School District. The new charter school will serve online students statewide starting this fall. Oregon Virtual Education Partners has partnered with Kaplan Virtual Education (KVE) to provide the curriculum, technology and management of the online school.
"The Kaplan Academy of Oregon will provide students with more flexibility and accessibility when it comes to high school education," said Patrick F. Donaldson, the President of Oregon Virtual Education Partners. "Students in the Reynolds School District and throughout the state now have the option of taking rigorous, high-quality courses completely online."
Kaplan Academy of Oregon will offer a robust web-based curriculum taught by Oregon-certified teachers, who will use a variety of tools like virtual white boards — the equivalent of a real-time online blackboard — to demonstrate course work. The teachers, who will be employed by Oregon Virtual Education Partners, will facilitate class discussions and instruct students via telephone, instant message and email.
Kaplan Academy of Oregon students will be able to select from 80 core, honors and Advanced Placement courses that they can access from virtually anywhere at any time. The courses, designed to cater to different skill levels and keep students motivated, will be embedded with audio, video and other engaging teaching tools.
